Sunday 11/09/05 Northside FC 3-2 Perrywoods Utd |
| An earlier start (1pm) and a more confident Perrywoods team took to the pitch in south Worcester, Perrywoods making all the early chances and putting Northside under real pressure. Zack Rock put in some good crosses from corner kicks and Josh Hirons again had an excellent game, picking the ball up out on the wing and causing problems for the defense. Another Perrywoods cross resulted in a great goal-bound header by Jack Rose, only to be denied by a brilliant save by the Northside keeper. As the game settled so Northside started to take control, and it was a long ball from midfield that caught the Perrywoods defence flat. The Northside front men were first to the ball to give them their first goal, 1-0. This spurred Northside to further attacks and it was left to Perrywoods Keeper David Djillian to make some excellent saves and some great defending by Elliott Shepherd (Man of the match) to keep the score down. With five minutes of the first half left, a scramble in the box saw Perrywoods defence static and a second goal conceded. Half time saw some enforced Perrywoods changes due to injury. Perrywoods started the second half as they had the first, chasing every ball and applying pressure. Within minutes of kick-off, a great cross by Kalman Dean-Richards was met by Jonathan Batham, who calmly slotted the ball passed the keeper, to give Perrywoods their first goal of the season. Mid way through the second half, a reshuffle of the Perrywoods team saw Andrew Williams move to midfield and Luke Perigo to centre forward. This had a instant effect as a foul on Luke just outside the box gave Perrywoods a good free-kick opportunity. Taken by Josh Hirons, the ball narrowly missed its target, being just over the cross bar. However, shortly after this, Josh picked up a loose ball on the edge of the Northside area and a speculative shot caught the keeper off his line to score his first goal and even up the score at 2-2. From then on, it was Perrywoods making all the running and Northside only occasionally having a run at the Perrywoods goal. However, its never over until the final whistle and with less than 2 minutes left to play, a Northside corner was met on the volley by their striker to leave the final score, Northside 3, Perrywoods 2. |
