Perrywoods United 2 : 1 Coombes Wood Colts

30 April 2006.

Match report

The Perrywoods United U13 team finished off their season with a 2 : 1 win over Coombs Wood Colts. This was a hard fought game and having had three weeks without a game, it took perrywoods the first five minutes to get up to speed. It was a free kick from outside of the box on the right hand side that gave Josh Hirons his chance and, a he has done on other occasions this season, he made it another ‘Josh Hirons special' by clearing the keeper in to the left hand side of the net – 1:0. A nervy last five minutes of the first half saw the Perrywoods goal under siege from a number of corners and only last ditch defending kept Coombs Wood for scoring.
Substitutions at half time led to another nerve start from Perrywoods and after 10 minutes, some indecision in defence and the lightning pace of the Coombs wood striker led to the equalizer – 1:1. Chances for both sides followed but neither capitalised on defensive frailties. With 10 minutes to go, Jonathan Batham, who had looked a threat to Coombs Woods for the whole game, latched on to Josh Dudley through ball and one on one with the goal keeper powered the ball passed the keeper, who got a hand to it but not enough to keep it out – 2:1 the final score.
There were good performances from Brad Tudgay (captain), Josh McCullock, Luke Perigo, Ali Horton (who linked up well with Jonathan Batham in attack) and Daniel Weir (back after a 6 week lay-off with a broken arm). Special mentions go to Damian Nikolic (Man of the match) who made some excellent interceptions and played well in defence. And Zack Rock (who also deserved man of the match but we only have one) who never stopped running, made some great challenges and showed how a midfield player can support the defenders and well as the getting forward to support the strikers.
