Perrywoods United 1 v Mostyn Rangers 4
A solid start to the game for Perrywoods as they dominated the half, having long spells of possession. Mostyn were kept on the back foot and in their own half for most of the half and only kept the score line at 0 – 0 because the Perrywoods strikers had left the shooting boots at home. The backline and midfield looked comfortable throughout.
Changes in defence and midfield at half time failed to make an impact and a set piece corner gave Mostyn their first goal. This was quickly followed by a second, again from a corner, Perrywoods punished for not picking up players in the box.
Perrywoods hit back soon after when Taj pounced on a lose ball in the Mostyn box to make it 2-1. However, shortly afterwards Perrywoods were again punished for slack marking as a Mostyn Player ran through for a free header whilst Perrywoods players were ball watching. As with the first half, perrywoods strikers and midfielders had lots of chances to score but failed to hit the target. Mostyn added a fourth late in the game.
This was a game where the score line did not reflect what had happened on the pitch. Perrywoods could easily have had 8 or 9 goals, however they need to learn to take their chances to get results. There were new players in the side and it showed with a very good first half performance. Parents on the sidelines commented on how this team looked a much better side that they had seen last year. This is a performance Perrywoods U15 can build on for the future.
Good performances from Macca (man of the match), Mitchell who fought for everything in midfield and looked good on the ball, Josh Hirons who played some excellent through balls for the strikers and Jake and Big Dan in defence who both had a solid game.
Good performance from the referee, Sean.
