Match Report – Perrywoods United U15

30 th September 2007

Perrywoods United 7 Tenbury Youth 3

With only 11 players at kick off time (no subs!!), a fired up Perrywoods hit the ground running. A Tenbury shot straight from the kick off was easily saved by goal keeper David Djillian. His resulting big kick found the head of Macca who nodded on to Jonathan Batham out on the right. He quickly turned and run for goal and from just outside the 18 yard box, slotted the ball past the keeper for Perrywoods first. 1-0 inside the first minute. For the next 10 minutes it was frantic stuff with Tenbury using the long ball down the centre for their centre forward to chase. After 15 minutes, a Tenbury set piece corner paid dividends when no one picked up the No 9, who headed the ball in to the Perrywoods net unchallenged. 1-1. Five minutes later, a speculative shot from well outside the box saw the ball bounce through the Perrywoods keepers hands to make it 2-1 to Tenbury. Shortly afterwards the Perrywoods keeper redeemed himself by making at outstanding save, pushing the ball over the bar from a Tenbury free kick.
After 25 minutes, Josh Hirons found space down the right and after beating two players delivered a pin point accurate ball straight in to the path of Macca who took one touch to set himself and then blasted the ball past the Tenbury keeper, 2-2.
At 35 minutes, Josh Hirons again picked up the ball on the right and ran at the defence. After beating the first man, he passed the ball out to Macca who picked out Josh Dudley on the left unmarked. A good first touch and a clinical finish from Josh Dudley saw Perrywoods 3-2 ahead at half time.
The first 15 minutes of the second half was a scrappy affair. However, nerves were settled as Josh Hirons got a well deserved goal when he blasted a free kick from outside the 18 yard box. A wicked deflected off the wall sent the ball looping over the Tenbury keeper, but it doesn't matter how they go in, 4-2 to Perrywoods.
The introduction of Dexter Young gave the attack at added height in the box and at the midway point of the second half, a corner saw Dexter rise and head home Perrywoods 5 th goal. However, straight from the resulting kick-off, Tenbury proved that they were not going to give up, as the No 9 beat 4 of the Perrywoods midfield and defence and rifle home a superb shot to make it 5-3.
With 10 minutes to go, Jake Yendell (who had an outstanding game at right back) set Josh Hirons free down the right side and, having beaten three players to reach the by-line, hit the bar with his cross but the rebound was met by Dexter Young who headed home his second. 6-3 Perrywoods.
With five minutes left on the clock, the Tenbury keeper took a short goal kick out to his right. The defender was quickly closed down and dispossessed by Tej Palladino-Peters. Tej took the ball in to the area and having seen the run from Jonathan, unselfishly slide the ball across the box for Jonathan to slot home his second and wrap the game up for Perrywoods 7-3.
This was a performance that saw Perrywoods playing as a team, playing for each other. It was a performance that each player on the pitch can be proud of. Every player gave tremendous effort and got their just reward with a well deserved win. Picking ‘man of the match' was a very difficult decision as everyone had played so well. As Dave and Derek agreed, we needed 12 man of the match trophies. However, after much deliberation, it was awarded to John Hirons for his excellent passing which lead to 3 of the goals. It is also worth noting that Luke Perigo had an excellent game on the right wing and the back four of Jake, Luke Holmes, Zach and Big Dan Buttigan also had a good game.
